MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

To ensure that the turf/lawn looks good for many years it is important to keep it healthy. If grass is healthy it can cope with heavy wear, fight off disease and compete with and prevent weed ingress. For healthy grass comply with the following instructions.

1. WATERING.

Immediately after laying the turf thoroughly soak it.

Water must go through the turf and soak the soil underneath for this first watering.

Check by lifting a corner of turf to ensure that water has soaked through.

Never allow the turf to dry out.

Continue watering until the roots are well established and then during dry periods.

One of the major causes of poor turf establishment is failure to maintain an adequate moisture level. For the first ten days the turf requires 8 litres/m² (c 1.5 gallons/yd² ) per day, evenly distributed using a suitable sprinkler system.

(Watering must continue for at least two weeks. However the amount of water needed will depend on the time of year. If conditions are warm and dry the turf will need extra water).

2. FEEDING.

If CORONET TURF is laid in the autumn it will not, in general, require further feeding until the spring. However, if laid in the spring or summer, feeding can commence about 4 weeks after laying. Apply a good quality, fine turf fertilizer at the manufacturer's recommended rate every 6 weeks. We recommend the use of non-phosphatic, nitrogenous fertilizers to be applied spring and summer, with the application of phosphatic autumn/winter fertilizers every 2 years after adequate aeration has been undertaken. Remember - light free-draining soils or periods of heavy rain will drain nutrients from the soil. Under these conditions it pays to feed the lawn a litttle extra.

Time of Year N P K Quantity
Early Spring - March 3 12 12 2 oz/m² or 55g/m²
Then every 4-5 weeks 8 0 6 1.5 oz/m² or 42g/m²
With the last dose at the end of September.

3. MOWING.

Mowing can commence as soon as the grass is long enough but not less than 10 days after laying. Set the mower high to just top the blades of grass and repeat every 3 to 4 days, gradually lowering the height of cut to the optimum level. We recommend the use of a sharp cylinder mower. Rotary mowers damage and coarsen the blades of grass, reducing the quality of the sward and encouraging a build up of thatch. (However they are acceptable if the blades are kept sharp and great care is taken for the first few mowings).

Always remove the grass clippings during establishment. It is however, permissible to let the clippings return to an established sward if the weather is hot and dry. It is not necessary to roll the turf. Regular use of a cylinder mower is quite enough.

NEVER cut more than one third off the length of the grass at one time as this will stress the grass and seriously damage it. The desired length of the grass is 20mm. If the grass gets very long get it back to 20mm by mowing more often but without removing more than one third at a time.
